AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Brian Walsh led five players in double figures with 18 points as Akron routed Division III John Carroll 97-53 Monday night in a nonconference matchup.

Deji Ibitayo shot 6 of 8 from the field en route to 15 points, Alex Abreu and Jake Kretzer had 12, and Chauncey Giliam chipped in 10.

Akron (2-1) opened the game on a 9-3 run but a layup by Kyle Pisco helped John Carroll cut the deficit to 9-5. The Lobos, however, would get no closer, as Akron pushed its lead to 22 points — following a 20-2 run — and led 49-27 at halftime.

Walsh and Ibitayo scored six points apiece during the run.

Akron shot 59 percent (20 of 34) from the field, made six 3-pointers and pulled down 22 rebounds in the first half. The Zips extended their lead to as much as 48 points, 95-47, in the second half.
