Illinois State dumps UC Santa Barbara 100-72

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — Jackie Carmichael had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Illinois State used a 21-0 first-half run to coast to a 100-72 season-opening victory over UC Santa Barbara on Monday night.

Tyler Brown added 22 points for the Redbirds, who shot 62 percent from the field, including 10 of 20 from 3-point range.

UC Santa Barbara (0-2) got 22 points and six assists from Taran Brown, and 15 points and 13 rebounds from Alan Williams.

Tyler Brown scored four straight points to start the 21-0 spurt for Illinois State, and finished with 12 during the run, which put the Redbirds up 27-6. They were ahead 49-29 at halftime and led by as many as 31 points in the second half when Carmichael hit a layup with 13:55 remaining.
