Kemp, East Carolina rout Methodist 87-51

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Maurice Kemp scored 21 points and Robert Sampson finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks to lead East Carolina over Division III Methodist 87-51 Tuesday night.

Kemp had 11 points in the first half to help East Carolina (2-0) build a 36-24 halftime lead.

Methodist (0-1) struggled from the field, shooting just 31.1 percent (19 of 61) for the game.

East Carolina shot 55.6 percent (20 for 36) and forced Methodist into 10 turnovers in the second half to blow the game open.

The Pirates scored 14 points in the second half off of Methodist turnovers while outscoring the Monarchs 32-10 on points in the paint.

Marshall Guilmette scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead East Carolina off the bench.

Bryan Hockaday led Methodist with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
