Amee Aarhus does not mind the Northwest weather.
Both are expected to sign Division I letters of intent this week.
Wednesday is the first day for athletes in a number of sports to sign letters of intent, declaring their intentions to play college athletics.
Woodward, a senior from Prairie, is expected to sign with the University of San Diego for women’s basketball.
Aarhus, a senior from Camas who moved from California during her junior year, is expected to sign with Portland State for softball.
Columbia River High School will celebrate three signings Wednesday.
Chloe Bartek, a golfer, is set to go to Sacramento State. Clayton Frank, who played quarterback for the football team, is going to Marist College in New York to play lacrosse. And baseball player Michael McCann is going to Seattle University.
Prairie also will honor basketball player Megan Lindsley, who already signed with The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, Calif., north of Los Angeles. An NAIA program, Lindsley did not have to wait until November to sign.
In other basketball signings, Carly Holboke of Mountain View is heading to the Dominican University of California in San Rafael, just north of San Francisco.
Former Prairie basketball player Jackie Lanz, now attending St. Mary’s Academy in Portland, is expected to sign with Portland State.
Portland Christian in playoffs
A Vancouver connection has helped Portland Christian into the second round of Oregon’s Class 2A state football playoffs.
Ty Zimmerman, Curtis Farmer, Austin Wisenbaker, and Anthony White are Clark County residents playing for the Royals this season.
Zimmerman had three touchdown receptions in the first-round playoff game. Wisenbaker had a sack.
The team is led by former Fort Vancouver coach Cal Szueber.

Katie White of Vancouver, was selected to the Class 2A Northwest League all-league first team for volleyball.
White attends Portland Christian High School, where she led the Royals to the Oregon state tournament.
