College notebook: Linfield’s Allison is top soccer defender

Linfield College senior defender Emily Allison has been named the Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

The Hockinson High School graduate, who played two years at Clark College before transferring to NCAA Division III Linfield, was a second-team All-NWC selection as a junior.

Danciu player of year

Concordia University junior forward Septi Danciu was named Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s soccer Player of the Year.

The Evergreen graduate has 18 goals and 42 points this season for the Cavaliers, who host Embry-Riddle on Saturday in the NAIA national playoffs.

Kimsey All-CCC

Concordia junior midfielder Hannah Kimsey was named first-team all-CCC for women’s soccer. The Columbia River High School graduate has four goals and 14 points this season. Concordia plays host to Cal State San Marcos in the NAIA playoffs on Saturday.

Academic honors for EWU’s Miller, Black

Eastern Washington University football player Ashton Miller was named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII team selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA). EWU women’s soccer player Cassie Black was a second-team selection.

• A junior center majoring in management, Evergreen High School graduate Miller carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.66.

nA sophomore forward majoring in pre-medicine, Battle Ground graduate Black carries a GPA of 3.76.

WWU’s Reiter named academic all-star

Western Washington sophomore Joshua Reiter, a Camas High School graduate, was named to the 2012 Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country academic all-star team. Reiter is a computer science major with a cumulative GPA of 3.56.

Cross country results

• Gonzaga junior Emily Thomas placed 40th at the NCAA Division I West Regional Championships in Seattle. The Camas graduate’s time was 20:45 over 6 kilometers (3.7 miles).

• Western Washington freshmen Taylor Guenther (Prairie) and Austen Reiter (Camas) were 49th in 23:14 and 56th in 23:23 for 6K at the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships at Kahuku Golf Course in Hawai’i.

For the WWU men, junior Tanner Boyd (Camas) was 51st in 34:21 for 10K (6.2 miles).
