WASHINGTON (AP) — Daniel Munoz made two free throws to snap a 57-all tie with 13 seconds left, recorded a steal and then hit two more free throws as American University held off Mount St. Mary’s for a 62-57 win Thursday night in nonconference action.

The Eagles (2-1) led 56-50 with 2:06 left when the Mountaineers (1-2) launched a 7-1 run, capped by a game-tying layup from Josh Castellanos with 21 seconds remaining.

Castellanos fouled Munoz on the ensuing possession, leading to the go-ahead free-throw makes. Munoz then stole the ball off Julian Norfleet on Mount St. Mary’s next possession, and, following an American timeout, made another pair of free throws after Castellanos again fouled to send him to the line.

Munoz finished with eight points on 1-of-5 shooting. Stephen Lumpkins led the Eagles with 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and also pulled down 11 rebounds.

Norfleet had 14 for the Mountaineers.
