Scyoc, Groselle lead Citadel past Montreat 62-45

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Freshman Matt Van Scyoc led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds and Mike Groselle added 13 points to help Citadel rout Division II Montreat Wednesday night in nonconference play.

Groselle added four steals, and Van Scyoc shot 4 of 6 from behind the arc.

Citadel (2-1) opened the game on a 21-10 run.

Citadel made 12 of 22 shots in the first half compared to Montreat shooting just 33.3 percent (6 for 18).

Van Sycoc and Groselle combined for 21 of Citadel’s 30 first-half points. Citadel led at halftime 30-15.

The Bulldogs started the second half on a 10-2 run, pushing the lead to 23 and blowing open the game.

Montreat (1-2), a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, counted the contest as a scrimmage.

Erich Allen finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort for Montreat.
