Fall sports athlete of the week: Monica Bottelberghe 11/16

Columbia River swimming Monica Bottelberghe was selected The Columbian’s fall sports athlete of the week in a vote by fans on Facebook.

Bottelberghe collected 36 percent of the 630 votes cast by fans to beat out Easton Kawawaki of Columbia River soccer. Kawawaki had 23 percent.

Bottelberghe won a 3A state title in the 200 freestyle in an All-American consideration time of 1:50.05 and placed second in the 100 freestyle in an automatic All-American time of 50.91.

Other nominees included Prairie volleyball player Karlee Lubenow, Camas girls soccer player Lauren Rood, and Hockinson swimmer Julia Sanders.

This is the final fall sports athlete of the week selection for 2012. Congratulations to all of our weekly winners.

Oct. 26: Nick Huff, Hockinson boys golf

Nov. 2: Nicole Goecke, Prairie girls cross country

Nov. 9: Aurora Bodenhamer, Hockinson girls soccer
