North Texas rolls by Cameron 78-49 in home opener

DENTON, Texas (AP) — Chris Jones scored 16 points, helping North Texas dominate Division II opponent Cameron and roll to a 78-49 victory Friday night in the Mean Green’s home opener.

Jones, a sophomore, was 8 of 9 from the field and added seven assists and five rebounds. Jacob Holmen came off the bench to score 14 points and Alzee Williams had 12 for the Mean Green (2-2), who went on a 35-3 run spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second and cruised from there.

Asaad Robinson was the lone bright spot for the Aggies (1-1), who shot just 27 percent from the field. Robinson came off the bench to score 20 points and was 7 of 14, including 4 of 8 on 3-pointers. The rest of the team was a combined 10 of 50.

The Mean Green won their 10th consecutive home opener.
