Tyler Burton, the Vancouver man seriously injured after being punched in the face late last month has improved to serious condition in a Chico, Calif., hospital.

Burton, 21, was sent to a hospital with “significant head trauma” after being knocked to the pavement, according to a Chico Police Department bulletin.

Burton, a 2010 graduate of Mountain View High School, was listed in serious condition Monday at Enloe Medical Center, hospital spokeswoman Christina Chavira said.

He attends Shasta College in Redding, Calif., where he is in the football team’s starting lineup.

A suspect in the case, identified as Andres Rodriguez, 20, was later booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville, Calif., on suspicion of assault, Chico police said.
