Two people escaped injury midday Monday when their minivan burst into flames on southbound Interstate 205.

The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. on I-205 just north of Padden Parkway, said Clark County Fire District 6 Battalion Chief Bryan Baum.

Baum said two women were borrowing a minivan from a relative and noticed it was overheating. The two pulled over to the right shoulder and black smoke started coming out of the engine compartment.

The two fled from the minivan.

Firefighters with District 6 responded and extinguished the fire. Crews temporarily blocked the right lane of traffic while fighting the blaze, Baum said.

Traffic was backed up in the area.
