NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Stan Okoye scored 22 points and D.J. Covington added 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks as Virginia Military Institute held off Old Dominion 76-71 Wednesday night for the Keydets’ first win over the Monarchs since 1978.

The Keydets (2-3), who led 47-34 at the half and by 10 with 14:42 to go, saw the Monarchs (1-4) storm back to lead 64-61 with 5:19 remaining.

Brian Brown’s first basket of the game tied it, and Okoye scored four straight points to push VMI ahead 68-65.

The Keydets forced four key turnovers in the final 2:41, two steals by Okoye and one apiece by Glasgow and Covington.
