The Vancouver Police Activities League aims to give away 1,000 books to Evergreen and Vancouver elementary students during the school year.

At its second event of the year, PAL board members and police officers will be at Washington Elementary School on Tuesday to give a book to each second-grader. Students will also get a chance to read with an officer and see a police car and other equipment.

More visits to more schools are planned in the coming months, according to a police news release.
