Washougal — A handful of Washougal High School band and choir students were picked from thousands of applicants to join the National Association for Music Education’s All-Northwest and All-State honor groups. Eight Washougal teens auditioned in early fall and were invited this month to the groups, comprised of high school musicians in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Alaska. Allix Fisher, Riley Miller, Sydney Niemi and Nick Stevens are in the All-Northwest Wind Symphony; Bret Wade, Austin Smith-Brown and Zoe West joined the All-State Symphonic Choir; and Crystal Saltmarsh was invited to the All-State Concert Band. The National Association for Music Education will hold its Northwest Division Conference on Feb. 14 to 17 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, where the honor groups will perform.
