VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Ryan Broekhoff scored a career-high 30 points — 26 of them in the first half — and Valparaiso cruised past Bethune Cookman 77-64 on Saturday night in a Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic regional final.
Broekhoff, a senior, was 8 of 11 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and made all 11 of his free throws. His previous best was 26 points against Detroit on Feb. 2.
Kevin Van Wijk added 19 points and Will Bogan had 11 for the Crusaders (5-1), who opened the game on a 23-5 run and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Valparaiso shot 55 percent from the field.
Adrien Coleman led the Wildcats (2-4) with 19 points, Alex Smith had 17 and Kevin Dukes scored 16, including all four of his team’s 3-pointers. Bethune-Cookman lost despite turning 18 Valparaiso turnovers into 26 points.
The Crusaders dominated the boards, outrebounding the Wildcats 33-19.
