LAS VEGAS (AP) — Eitan Chemerinski scored a career-high 19 points off the bench, helping Cornell beat Longwood 84-78 on Saturday in both teams’ final game at the Las Vegas Invitational.
Chemerinski, a senior, was 9 of 12 from the field. Errick Peck added 14 points and 10 rebounds, also off the bench, for the Big Red (3-4), who got 14 points from Shonn Miller and 12 from Nolan Cressler. Cornell shot 53 percent from the floor.
Freshman Michael Kessens had a season-high 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Lancers (1-5). Nik Brown and Tristan Carey had 19 points apiece and combined for all nine of Longwood’s 3-pointers.
Cornell never trailed after the opening minutes, leading 42-30 at halftime and by at least seven for most of the second half. Cressler and Peck hit six free throws in the final minute to secure the win in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
