Texas State beats UC Riverside 81-69 in Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Corey Stern scored 17 points and Matt Staff scored 16 to lead Texas State to an 81-69 win over UC Riverside Saturday in the seventh-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Reid Koenen added 12 points and Vonn Jones scored 10 for the Bobcats (3-3), who made 11 of their first 12 shots, raced to a 20-2 lead and were ahead 26-16 midway through the first half. UC Riverside closed within five points early in the second half, but couldn’t come any closer.

Chris Harriel led the Highlanders (1-6) with 16 points. Dayton Boddie scored 12 and David Guinn had 10 points for Riverside.
