Cassie Swartz hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the middle of a 17-0 run in the fourth quarter as the defending Class 4A state champion Storm pulled away to beat school-district rival Columbia River.

Stephanie McDonagh led the Storm with 15 points. She also had eight steals and four assists. Swartz finished with 13 points, and Hannahjoy Adams had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She led the team with five assists, as well.

While Skyview looks nothing like the team that won the state title last season — new faces, new starters — the Storm will play all season with that target on their backs.

Columbia River was looking to get that signature win, leading after the first quarter.

But Skyview’s defense and rebounding was too strong the rest of the night.

Columbia River committed 31 turnovers and had trouble keeping the Storm off the glass. Skyview outrebounded River 48-35, including a 22-4 edge on the offensive rebounds. That led to Skyview attempting more than twice as many shots as the Chieftains in the game.

Still, River was within eight points two minutes into the fourth quarter. However, the Storm scored the next 17 points in a 19-1 run to end the contest.

Marion Lilly made 8 of 9 free throws and scored 12 points to lead Columbia River.
