AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas running back D.J. Monroe used to be the enigma in the Longhorns offense. So much talent, so few touches.

Now a fifth-year senior, Monroe is fulfilling the promise he showed as a freshman. He has scored a touchdown in every game this season.

Monroe set a school record with his third career kickoff return for a touchdown last week against Oklahoma State. As a running back, he’s scored three times. Even when he doesn’t get the ball, defenses must account for him whenever he’s on the field because of his game-breaking speed.

Monroe said he worked hard in the offseason to have a bigger role in the offense.

No. 11 Texas (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) hosts No. 8 West Virginia (4-0, 1-0) on Saturday night.
