KINGSBARNS, Scotland (AP) — Branden Grace of South Africa birdied the final five holes to shoot a remarkable 12-under 60 at the Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland on Thursday.

Grace broke the course record with a bogey-free round at Kingsbarns to become the 15th player in European Tour history to shoot 60.

Unlike the PGA Tour in the United States, no player has shot a 59 in the 40-year history of the European Tour.

The Pretoria-born Grace says, “It could have been a 59 — I said to my caddy when I hit it stiff on 18 that it could be close to a 59.”

On a day of low scoring, Victor Dubuisson of France shot a course-record 62 on the famed Old Course at St. Andrews. It’s one of three venues staging the event.
