EVERETT — A Monroe Correctional Complex prisoner already serving 30 years for killing his cellmate in 2006 was convicted Monday of attempting to murder another inmate in 2009 in the prison laundry.
Twenty-six-year-old Daniel Jay Perez now faces a life term without the possibility of parole under the state’s three strikes law.
The Daily Herald reports sentencing is set for Nov. 8 in Everett.
Perez was originally sent to the Washington State Reformatory in 2005 for vehicular homicide in Pierce County. Seven months into his sentence, he strangled cellmate Cory Garzina with the drawstring from his prison-issue sweat pants and received a 30-year sentence.
