Long-shot Northwood Bully wins at Meadowlands

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Long-shot Northwood Bully took command out of the gate and held off Back Away by a head in the $30,000 allowance-optional claiming feature at the Meadowlands on Friday.

Ridden by Pablo Fragoso, Northwood Bully covered the flat mile over firm turf in 1:38 2-5. The Ben Perkins Jr.-trained 4-year-old gelding paid $101.60, $38.40 and $23.40 for his third victory in eight starts this year.

Back Away paid $6 and $4, while Osceola Prince finished third in the field of 10 and returned $3.60 to show.

The Meadowlands meet runs through Nov. 3 with live cards offered on Fridays and Saturdays.
