Ball State beats W. Michigan 30-24 in OT

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Jahwan Edwards ran for three touchdowns, including one in overtime, to lift Ball State over W. Michigan 30-24 on Saturday evening.

Edwards gave Ball State a homecoming victory with a 15-yard run during overtime. Edwards’ first touchdown was an 11-yard run in the first quarter. He later scored on a 23-yard run. Edwards finished with 23 carries for 138 yards.

Steven Schott made a field goal for Ball State (4-3, 2-2 Mid-American Conference). Jamill Smith caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Keith Wenning to put the Cardinals in front 24-21 late in the fourth quarter. Wenning was 27 of 43 for 265 yards.

For the Broncos, Tyler Van Tubbergen threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Josh Schaffer. Antoin Scriven and Brian Fields rushed for touchdowns.

The game went into overtime after Andrew Haldeman made a 52-yard field goal for W. Michigan (3-4, 1-2 Mid-American Conference) with .5 seconds remaining.
