Carkhuff leads Davidson past Campbell 28-21

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Jonathan Carkhuff passed for three touchdowns to help Davidson gain its first victory of the season against Campbell 28-21 Saturday.

Davidson (1-6, 1-3 Pioneer Football League) scored on its first possession of the game when Carkhuff found Reese Williams for a 23-yard touchdown. Carkhuff completed 31 of 44 passes for 340 yards.

Carkhuff later connected with Danny Martinez for a 9-yard touchdown pass with 55 seconds left in the second quarter. Davidson led at halftime 14-0.

After forcing Campbell into a three-and-out to begin the second half, Carkhuff found Lanny Funsten for a 16-yard touchdown and a 21-0 lead.

Campbell’s (1-6, 0-4) offense was stagnant, going scoreless the first three quarters.

The Camels attempted to rally with three late touchdowns, including two by Dakota Wolf, but Davidson ran out the clock on its last possession. Wolf led Campbell with 154 rushing yards on 22 carries.
