EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants have activated defensive tackle Chris Canty for Sunday’s NFC East game against Washington.

Canty started every game in the Giants’ 2011 championship season but had offseason knee surgery and had been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of training camp.

Canty returned to practice this week. Rocky Bernard started the first four games in his place but will miss his third straight game with a quadriceps injury. Rookie Markus Kuhn has started the last two games.

To make room on the roster for Canty, the Giants placed running back Da’Rel Scott on injured reserve.
