South Carolina State edges Florida A&M 27-20 in OT

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Jalen Simmons scored the winning touchdown from the 7-yard line in overtime to lead South Carolina State to a 27-20 victory against Florida A&M in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday night.

Simmons had a career-high 24 carries for 144 yards for the Bulldogs (3-5, 2-3), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Bulldogs quarterback Richard Cue scored on a 7-yard run for a 14-7 lead, and Nick Belcher made field goals of 42 and 47 yards. Julius Pendergrass scored the other Bulldogs touchdown on a 1-yard run.

The Rattlers (3-5, 3-2) rallied with 13 fourth-quarter points.

Damien Fleming pulled the Rattlers to 17-13 with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Lenworth Lennon, and backup Tyler Bass tied the game at 20-20 with a 42-yard pass to running back James Owens with 2:37 left in regulation. Owens caught seven passes for 88 yards.

Florida A&M leads the series 31-19-2.
