Patterson leads Duquesne over Sacred Heart 35-3

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sean Patterson accounted for five touchdowns to lead Duquesne to a 35-3 rout of Sacred Heart on Saturday in a Northeast Conference game.

Patterson, the Dukes’ quarterback, rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more. After a scoreless first quarter, Duquesne (5-2, 3-1) scored twice in the second quarter on Patterson’s 14-yard run and his 44-yard touchdown pass to Gianni Carter.

In the third quarter, Patterson scored on runs of 15 and 44 yards. In the fourth quarter, Patterson hit Carter again for a touchdown, this one a 12-yarder. In all, Patterson completed 10 of 19 passes for 156 yards and ran eight times for 71 yards — 53 coming on his longest run of the day.

Larry McCoy rushed for 93 yards in 22 carries for the Dukes, one yard more than Sacred Heart (2-5, 1-3) managed in 35 rushing attempts.
