I will definitely vote for Referendum 74. I have several reasons for this decision.
I have several friends in the gay and lesbian community, and I have had some relatives who are gay. My main reason is that these folks know the value of “that piece of paper,” which is known as a marriage certificate.
They want to be treated as equals and have legal rights. My friends do not flaunt their lifestyle; they merely want their legal right, so let’s give it to them.
I have been married for 63 years, and I find it amazing when our so-called “normal” young people shack up (the old term for living together) and then begin having children, without the benefit of that same “piece of paper.” (The girls involved should be taught about the old adage about the farmer who won’t buy the chicken if he can get the eggs for free.)
I realize they are emulating the “rich and famous” who flaunt their lifestyles. Those wealthy and famous people can apparently afford the cash and heartaches involved with their lifestyle. Most people cannot.
