ZURICH (AP) — FIFA has extended former presidential candidate Mohamed bin Hammam’s ban by 45 days while bribery and financial mismanagement allegations are investigated.
FIFA says its ethics judge, Joachim Eckert, extended the 90-day provisional ban that was imposed in July to prevent the Qatari official working in soccer.
Bin Hammam’s lifetime ban was overturned in July by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which suggested FIFA’s prosecutor Michael Garcia could seek new evidence that Caribbean voters were paid $40,000 bribes.
Garcia is also examining how bin Hammam managed Asian Football Confederation accounts and contracts while president.
