SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — They’re teens skipping school and adults driving through the night for a chance to line up before dawn in soggy San Francisco for a chance to watch a few innings of the World Series for free.
They were at AT&T Park in 2010 when the Giants battled the Texas Rangers, and again in September and through the playoffs.
The die-hard fans known as the “knothole gang,” who are prepared to endure all sorts of hardships and discomfort, began lining up again early Wednesday and the queue kept on growing as the opening game between the Giants and Detroit Tigers approached.
The Giants’ ballpark is the only stadium in the country with the viewing feature, but there are rules: No chairs, dogs or drinking. And every three innings, stadium security rotates people to and from the spots.
