Marist routs Valparaiso 44-7

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Chuckie Looney threw two long touchdown passes to Mike Rios and Marist rolled to a 44-7 win over Valparaiso on Saturday.

The two TD passes covered 97 and 78 passes and helped the Red Foxes (3-5, 2-3 Pioneer League) to a 30-0 halftime lead. Valparaiso (0-8, 0-5) actually had more first downs in the game, 22-21, and nearly matched Marist in passing yards with 309 to the Red Foxes’ 312.

But Wale Onakoya ran 85 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter and with 33 seconds before the break, Max Jacques ran 96 yards for a score. Marist ran for 349 yards while holding the Crusaders to 73.

Looney was 8 of 13 for 232 yards and two touchdowns. Backup Tommy Reilly also tossed a TD pass for Marist. Eric Hoffman threw for 304 yards and Valparaiso’s only TD, a 21-yard pass to Tanner Kuramata.
