SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Eric Breitenstein carried the ball 23 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns to help Wofford beat The Citadel 24-21 Saturday in a Southern Conference showdown.

The Citadel (4-4, 3-3) scored on its opening possession when Ben Dupree hooked up with Domonic Jones for the 23-yard touchdown.

Wofford (7-1, 5-1) tied the game at 7-7 on the next possession when Breitenstein scored on an 8-yard touchdown run. Wofford scored the next 17 points to take a 24-7 lead into halftime.

The Citadel cut the lead to 24-14 on Darien Robinson’s 44-yard touchdown run with 8:49 left in the third quarter, then scored on the first play of the fourth quarter when Van Dyke Jones ran it in from 5-yards out, cutting the lead to 24-21.

But that was the closest The Citadel would get as the Terriers stopped the Bulldogs on fourth-and-9 with 1:03 left to seal the victory.
