Sturgeon retention to close in The Dalles pool

Sturgeon retention in The Dalles pool of the Columbia River will be closed for the year beginning Sunday.

Washington and Oregon biologists said that through Sunday anglers have caught 263 sturgeon in the pool, which is 88 percent of the guideline of 300 for the year.

Fishing effort and catch has improved recently.

Bonneville and John Day pools closed earlier this year. In Bonneville pool, there were 164 sturgeon left on a guideline of 2,000. In John Day pool, 29 sturgeon remained on a guideline of 500.
