Sturgeon retention in The Dalles pool of the Columbia River Gorge will be closed beginning Thursday.

Washington and Oregon have set a harvest allocation of 100 sturgeon in the sport fishery between The Dalles and John Day dams.

Robin Ehlke of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife said the harvest is projected to be 112 sturgeon already.

Catch-and-release sturgeon angling in The Dalles pool remains open, except through July in the spawning sanctuary between John Day Dam and the Rufus, Ore., grain elevator.
