ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan guard Trey Burke has been suspended for the Wolverines’ exhibition opener Thursday against Northern Michigan.

The school says Burke will sit out for violating team standards. Coach John Beilein says the sophomore star is a good kid but made some “out-of-character” decisions he now regrets.

The fifth-ranked Wolverines are coming off a Big Ten championship last season. Burke was the team’s leading scorer and provided crucial 3-point shooting in Beilein’s perimeter-oriented offense.

After considering a jump to the NBA following his freshman year, Burke decided to stay at Michigan.
