Coastal Carolina stops Furman 47-45 in triple OT

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — DeMario Bennett caught a 26-yard touchdown pass in the third overtime and then scored on the mandatory two-point conversion try on a reverse to give Coastal Carolina a 47-45 victory against Furman on Saturday night.

Coastal Carolina (2-0) scored first in the third overtime on a 26-yard pass from Aramis Hillary to Bennett. Hank McCloud scored on a 3-yard run for Furman (0-2), but the two-point try failed.

Hillary was 20-for-27 passing for two touchdowns and ran for a score, and Matt Hazel caught seven passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.

The Paladins’ Reese Hannon threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns. Furman scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to take 25-22 lead, but the Chanticleers’ Alex Catron kicked a 45-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to tie the game at 25.

Jerodis Williams led Furman with 85 yards rushing and a touchdown.
