Madame Giry wins Belmont’s Smart N Fancy Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) — Madame Giry, the 2-1 favorite, extended her winning streak to four on Wednesday, beating Sweet Cat by 212 lengths in the $80,000 Smart N Fancy Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Belmont Park.

Making her stakes debut, Madame Giry powered to the win with a four-wide move in the lane. Eddie Castro was aboard for trainer Cam Gambolati as Madame Giry ran the six furlongs in 1:07.98 over the firm turf course.

Madame Giry paid $6.40, $3.70 and $2.70. Sweet Cat returned $5.20 and $2.80 while Anna Sophia paid $2.70 to show.
