SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Carmelo Anthony is visiting Puerto Rico to unveil remodeled public housing basketball courts and play a bit of softball with celebrity friends.
It is the third time the New York Knicks star has visited the U.S. territory in as many years to help rebuild basketball courts through his charitable foundation.
Anthony, whose father was Puerto Rican, said during a press conference Thursday that he is targeting the island to provide children with a role model.
Sports Secretary Henry Neumann said the two remodeled courts are used by the island’s top minor league players.
Anthony will also host a charity softball game Saturday with several other athletes, including Knicks teammates Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton, and former Yankees center fielder Bernie Williams.
