BOSTON (AP) — Derek Jeter is back in the New York Yankees’ lineup after pulling up lame a day earlier.

Jeter hit leadoff as the designated hitter on Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox. In the eighth inning of the Yankees’ 5-4 win on Wednesday night, he limped on his left leg after lunging for first base on a double-play groundout.

After the game, Jeter said he would be in the lineup on Thursday.

Andy Pettitte will return on Tuesday to start against the Toronto Blue Jays, manager Joe Girardi said before Thursday’s game. The left-hander (3-3) has been out since June 27 when his left ankle was broken by a liner off the bat of Cleveland’s Casey Kotchman. Girardi said 70 pitches would be a realistic workload for Pettitte.
