To celebrate raising $38,000 in grants and donations to replace its aging heating ventilation and air conditioning system, Vancouver’s School of Piano Technology for the Blind is having an open house from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 28 at the school, 2510 E. Evergreen Blvd.

The Northwest Lions Foundation for Sight and Hearing, Lions Clubs, United Way of Columbia-Willamette and individual donors led the fundraising effort.

As the temperature soared to 98 degrees on Aug. 15, five new Lennox gas-powered, 5-ton HVAC units were hooked up. New voice-activated, talking and programmable thermostats were installed in time for the start of the school year. The project goal was to be more energy efficient, create effective temperature zones, provide reliable heating and cooling, and to make the HVAC system accessible for students and staff.
