Shumway — Community advocate Linda Caton was named a “Vancouver Sparkler” at the Sept. 6 meeting of the Shumway Neighborhood Association. Shumway neighbors unanimously voted to honor Caton with a Vancouver Sparkles community pride award because of her volunteerism and the artistic landscaping at her home on I Street. Caton helps with the annual neighborhood cleanup, which has rid the area of illegal dump sites. She writes newsletter stories about recycling and supervises the Clark County Fair’s Crafts and Hobbies section. And Caton was winner of The Columbian’s July 2008 Cheapskate Contest, which aimed to demonstrate how to stretch your budget. “Her reputation is, she can spend a nickel twice and still have change left over,” said husband John Caton.
