The city of Hillsboro, Ore., will celebrate the start of construction of a baseball stadium for the Single A Yakima Bears.

Clark County last year passed on the opportunity to bring the Bears to Vancouver, and Hillsboro jumped at the chance to bring minor league baseball back to the Portland metro area.

A new name has not been selected for the Hillsboro team.

The ceremony will be 11 a.m. Friday on Field 4 of the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex, 4450 N.W. 229th Ave. in Hillsboro.

Speakers will include Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey, Mike McMurray of Short Season LLC and team manager K.L. Wombacher.

The Yakima Bears are affiliated with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
