FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis has been cleared for contact in practice for the first time since suffering a concussion in the team’s season opener.
Coach Rex Ryan says he is optimistic Thursday about Revis’ chances of playing Sunday against the Dolphins in Miami, but adds that he is leaning on the team’s doctors before saying the cornerback will definitely be on the field.
Revis is expected to practice fully Thursday after passing all required tests. He was injured Sept. 9 against Buffalo when he was accidentally kicked in the head by teammate Bart Scott while attempting a tackle.
Ryan says he’s “definitely happy” Revis can return to contact drills because it means he’s healthy, and gives the Jets perhaps the league’s premier defensive player.
