SEATTLE (AP) — Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre is back in the Rangers lineup against the Seattle Mariners, but that doesn’t mean his stomach problems are completely solved.
Beltre is hitting fourth and playing third base for the second-game of a weekend series against the Mariners on Saturday. Beltre flew to Seattle late Friday night after remaining in Southern California to have tests on the pain in his stomach.
Beltre said the tests revealed he has scar tissue from an old surgery pressing against his intestines. He was told by doctors there is no simple cure other than surgery, which he does not consider an option at this point with the Rangers leading the AL West and less than two weeks left in the regular season. Beltre says his pain threshold will be the ultimate determination of how much he plays.
