TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Terrance Owens passed for 290 yards and three touchdowns, and Toledo beat Coastal Carolina 38-28 Saturday night in nonconference play.

The Rockets (3-1) won their third straight after a season-opening 24-17 overtime loss at Arizona.

Owens completed 27 of 36 passes, including two to Cordale Scott for touchdowns. Owens’ third TD pass was a 43-yarder to Bernard Reedy, one of Reedy’s 10 receptions. Scott’s second TD reception, a 7-yarder with 4:59 to play, clinched it for Toledo.

Rocket running back Cassius McDowell rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown.

For Coastal Carolina, now 2-2 after a 2-0 start, Aramis Hillary passed for 356 yards and three touchdowns but was sacked five times. Hillary hit Thomas Pauciello on a 25-yard touchdown pass, later DeMario Bennett for a 19-yard score and then Tyrell Blanks for a 17-yard touchdown midway through the fourth quarter. But then Scott’s second TD catch clinched it.
