DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Colby Walden returned a kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown with 1:23 remaining to lift Jacksonville past Dayton 21-17 Saturday in the Pioneer Football League opener for both teams.

The Flyers (1-3) had taken the lead just 16 seconds earlier on Ross Smith’s 5-yard pass from Will Bardo, capping a 12-play drive lasting more than 5 minutes.

Dayton started its final drive at its own 15 and got to the Dolphins’ 34 before throwing four incomplete passes, the last two in the final 7 seconds.

Although the Flyers outgained Jacksonville (3-1) in total offense 388 yards to 252, the Dolphins made up for it with big plays. With Dayton leading 10-0 early in the second half, Andre Addison picked off a Bardo pass and ran 43 yards for a score.

Kade Bell’s longest pass of the day, a 22-yarder to Andrew Robustelli, gave Jacksonville a 14-10 halftime lead.
