Cowboys TE Witten not making excuses for drops

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Jason Witten wishes he could blame the dropped passes on his spleen injury or feeling bad in some way.

Instead, the Dallas Cowboys’ seven-time Pro Bowl tight end says he’s just not making plays.

Witten said Monday, a day after he dropped what likely would have been a touchdown pass in a win over Tampa Bay, that his boobles this season are unacceptable and he’s got to get it fixed.

After lacerating his spleen in the preseason opener Aug. 13, Witten got back to play the regular-season opener Sept. 5.

In the two games since, Witten has been targeted 16 times and has caught only six passes. About six were considered drops, some of them balls Witten expects to catch — and has in the past.
