Kelly: No. 10 Notre Dame wants to use only 1 QB

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is counting on sophomore quarterback Everett Golson to get the offense going for 10th-ranked Fighting Irish.

After pulling Golson in the second quarter Saturday against Michigan and seeing backup Tommy Rees lead the Irish (4-0) to victory for a second-time this season, Kelly said Sunday he doesn’t see the situation as a two-quarterback system. He views it as an experienced player propping up a freshman quarterback who is “experiencing being a young quarterback.”

Kelly says he pulled Golson after he threw a second interception because he was careless. Kelly says the entire Irish offense needs to improve and he’s confident it will get better. He says the key is playing with more consistency, saying the Irish have failed to capitalize on all their opportunities.
