Mathews, Gates active for Chargers vs Falcons

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Ryan Mathews was set to make his season debut for San Diego, and tight end Antonio Gates also was active for the Chargers against the Atlanta Falcons in a matchup of undefeated teams.

Mathews hasn’t played since breaking his collarbone on his first carry in the exhibition opener on Aug. 9. Gates was inactive last week after hurting his ribs in the opener at Oakland.

Inactive for San Diego are safety Brandon Taylor, cornerback Shareece Wright, running back Ronnie Brown, linebackerJonas Mouton, defensive tackle Antonio Garay, tackle Jared Gaither and tight end Ladarius Green.

Falcons inactives are quarterback Dominique Davis, cornerback Christopher Owens, running back Antone Smith, center Joe Hawley, tackle Lamar Holmes and defensive ends Jonathan Massaquoi and Cliff Matthews.
