INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An NCAA rules committee has approved a proposal to give baseball umpires more discretion in determining calls on foul balls that bounce into fair territory.
If the call is overturned, the umpire crew chief will determine where the runners should go. The foul-to-fair call was part of an experimental replay system that was available during the College World Series but was never used.
The committee also approved one-game suspensions for all non-head coaching officials who are ejected for disputing a call.
In men’s lacrosse, teams will have 30 seconds to take a shot following a stall warning. No visible shot clock will be used. And in wrestling, the committee approved experimental replay reviews for all calls other than a fall. Each coach will get one challenge at each dual meet.
